LipiFlow Procedure

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, known as MGD is a common eye condition that many people don't realize they have. Meibomian Glands are glands in your eyelids that help produce the oil layer in your tears. Changes in the amount or quality of the oil and/or to the glands themselves can lead to MGD. The most common type, obstructive MGD, happens when the gland openings get clogged and less oil reaches the eye surface. MGD is the most common cause of dry eye syndrome and may lead to eyelid inflammation, called blepharitis. If you're having eye surgery, untreated MGD raises the chance of getting an infection and inflammation afterward. In its advanced stage, MGD may lead to corneal disease. The LipiFlow Thermal Pulsation System is a 12 minute bilateral procedure. By the simultaneous heat and a gentle pulsatile pressure to the upper and lower lids that helps unblock and evacuate the stagnant debris from the glands.
